Heyoka

Last night I cried so hard it sounded like laughter

Last night the pain from the hunger and aching

Grew so much that I felt full, bliss

I saw an eternity of pain

I shook like a leaf and cinched my throat

I cried until my eyeballs shivered

I screamed when I got home

Into my pillow, loud and long against his rage

I wanted to go deaf and dumb

I wanted to hurt more than the hurt of this self-destruction

I cried at the sound, at the touch, I rode my horse backward

And it turned into laughing colors
